Visitors explore this region by bike, boat, car or on foot to enjoy the scenic beauty and cultural heritage of the D&L Trail in eastern Pennsylvania. This 165-mile pathway follows the historic route of anthracite coal - from mine to market. Rivers, canals, towpaths and rail pass through the region where a discovery in the north spawned prosperous iron and steel industries. Canal boats laden with coal, lumber and other goods traveled to Philadelphia and beyond to help fuel America's industrial revolution.
